I meant to post about this a while ago. Home Companion magazine has a special issue out that is a source book for creative pursuits - full of information and resource guides. I am happy to be featured!
"In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit, and timeless message."
Picture yourself out of gift wrap. Picture yourself scanning and printing out the pattern of your favorite skirt {or another article of your clothing}. Picture yourself in a coordinated ensemble with gift in hand.
I like hearing my 3 year old say words that sound impossibly cute coming from his mouth - words like parfait, delicious and grandeur. I like watching squirrels {especially at this time of year} and hearing them on the studio roof. I like the quirky habits of my husband and I get happy when he brings me coffee every morning. I like hearing my 9 year old laugh and the dimples he gets when he smiles. I get happy when my kids play together and there isn't a war. I like having my hair shampooed, buying a new pair of shoes, and eating a piece of fruit at exactly the perfect time, perfectly ripe.
The painting is on an aged wooden panel, and the paint is some kind of super thick glossy house paint.
Some girlfriends and I had a big yard sale together a while back. It kind of defeats the purpose of 'purging' if you end up buying things from your friends { and they end up buying from you - it is more like swapping than selling}. That is how I ended up with this lion painting. I think he is pretty fetching; a folk art, Alexander Girard-ish king of the jungle that brightens up C's room.
This, I love. The Wisdom Project by artist Andrew Zuckerman is "inspired by the idea that one of the greatest gifts that one generation can pass to another is the wisdom it has gained from experience... {The Wisdom Project} seeks to create a record of a multicultural group of people who have all made their mark on the world...This comprehensive portrayal of such a profound and global group is an index of extraordinary perspectives."
I checked out Lena Corwin's new book, Printing by Hand, from the library a few weeks ago. {Parenthetically, is there anything better than the library? Well, yes, but it is up there on the list.} The printing techniques it features are similar to this book, but the applications are different and some of the projects are more specific, illustrating each step. Like!
