I like vintage make do's - quirky items, most of them utilitarian, constructed out of household materials at hand. Someday I will show you my vintage bookcase made out of wooden spools or my oversize chain made out of bottle caps.
That sensibility inspired these wooden clothespin wreaths that I made for a few friends this year.
All that they required are clothespins, cardboard, and the inside ring of a wooden embroidery hoop. Trace the outside of the embroidery hoop onto the cardboard and then a circle 3/8 to 1/2 inch wider all the way around. Cut out cardboard ring, making sure that it fits over the hoop tightly. Attach each clothespin with hotglue - putting a bead of glue inside the end of the clothespin as well as on the bottom where it connects with the hoop - making sure to glue the pins so that they are flush with the top face of the wooden hoop. I sprayed them with a matte, clear wood finish and glued a small loop of ribbon for hanging onto the back.
I experimented with a few sizes, the small is 4 inch hoop.
