Lovely in bloom

Love the paper botanicals of  Eloise Corr Danch - currently featured in 23 windows at Macy's for its 2009 Flower Show - garlands made with more than 2,500 handmade paper flowers  and 20 ornate headdresses. Wish I could see it outside of my computer screen.

This owl makes me happy.
And I think it would make a kid happy to receive this guy {with a present inside}.

It could even be fun to make one with your kid. Working off an idea for a paper bag owl puppet in one of my vintage child craft books, I made this bird into a gift bag. Want to know how?

Isn't she fantastic?

Tomorrow is her 100th birthday. Rita Levi Montalcini is a Nobel Prize-winning neurologist and a senator for life in Italy.

For Turin-born Levi Montalcini , anti-Jewish laws of  Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime in the 1930s  forced her to quit university and do research in an improvised laboratory --  her bedroom at home.

"Above all, don't fear difficult moments," she said. "The best comes from them."
