I found this children's book in Omaha last year, intrigued by the line illustrations. Written by Louis MacNeice, a successful Irish poet and playwright, The Penny That Rolled Away { The SixPence That Rolled Away in Europe} was his only writing for children.

Once upon a time, it starts, there was a half dollar and he married a quarter and they had three children - a dime, a nickel and a penny. An adventure ensues.

The illustrations by Marvin Bilek are kind of whimsical and wonderfully detailed. I want to find some more of his work.

Portland readers -  have you been here ? Went last night for dinner for the first time. OH MY GOD. Everything was great. Let me just say that the Root Beer Float { for adults, with vodka and sambuca} is most enjoyable.

In related news,  today is a no sugar day. {planning to go min. of  3 weeks} PRAY FOR ME.

I had the most amazing weekend, surrounded by friends and feeling wonderful. An awesome scavenger hunt that left me drenched and smiling {tell you more about that later} an epic tiara and a day full of suprises. G and the boys magically appeared and after a round of the birthday song, circled by friends,  a moment came that was most sublime - M sang me a quite verse of Black Bird.  It was a moment of feeling overwhelming love and I will never forget it. {and that is saying something, as my memory is horrible}

When I returned home, I found out that a sweet aunt of mine had passed away that afternoon. I really fucking hate cancer. I hope she knew how much she was loved, how much I loved her.

Apologies for the silence! Have had a number of custom toppers in the last few weeks and busy, busy.  A lot of fun to work on. I wanted to shoot the most recent to share, but my camera is at the shop needing repair {5 year olds!}

It was a fun topper with a heart and arrow and paper elements for the tiers of the cake. The pieces are inspired and include the bride's stationery from Cheree Berry, she is great to work with! Her designs are full of color and pattern and awash in happy-full-ness. Below are shots from Cheree's wedding, featured in MS Weddings, Summer 09 - I really love all of the paper elements she created and how they are carried throughout the wedding including large printed napkins, favor bags, and ceremony signs. Her invitation was a series of nested envelopes and cards, each with a different pattern. I used to those papers and patterns to create a little 3D garland for the cake and some dec. for the top.
