the boys

M was in the class play last week. It was fun to watch all of the kids and he did well. A lot of unexpected comedy all around. I don't volunteer as much I would like to, but was able to contribute by hand-lettering the program cover.

You could say that C is a natural for climbing the walls... finished up his Bouldering class at the comm. center. One exercise is to get the rubber chickens that are placed in some of the upper hand-holds and to drop them into a bucket behind them on the ground, and also to tap balls off a series of orange cones with their foot or hand.

I love watching both of them do things they enjoy.

Other ways they had me smiling this past week:

C told me his back hurt and that I needed to buy him a Sleep Number bed.

Playing with their track, there was a big train wreck. M told C that one of the bystanders immediately fell to sleep and proceeded  to explain Narcolepsy to his little brother.

And, of course, just by being the crazy little guys they are.

Well, not screamed exactly, but you know what I mean. Just like a tumble on the  playground, get up and brush yourself off and go out and have more fun.

It needs to be said...

I love my kids, so much love,

but some days, parenting can be really hard.

{Man, time flies. Wednesday already.}

So, I had a really nice Valentine's Day with G. He made a wonderful dinner {thanks for the groceries & babysitting Mom}and surprised me with some yummies. He is a good egg.

About a week before Valentine's, little man C and I were at the grocery store. Just as I was wheeling past the huge display of Valentine's chocolates and candy, C loudly announces "I know what I am going to get you for Valentine's Day!" I say, "oh, what?" expecting the answer to be chocolate - because then C would be able to eat all of it.

When he yelled {even louder} "BATTERIES!" it became apparent to me what a few folks thought I would need them for. Ha.

for this Halloween

We escorted Merlin and Captain Hook through the neighborhood. They were calling for rain, but we seriously lucked out with the weather - especially because part of C's Hook costume is made with coffee filters. M's Merlin costume was great at keeping him warm, although he later ditched the felt beard.

You night remember that C has a real sweet tooth, needless to say he was ecstatic about going door to door and asking for candy - both of them 'shopping' the bowls for their favorites, despite our reminders not to. However, they both told us they were done for the night and we skipped a block or two on the way home.

 

We let them have a couple of pieces that night and then they have the choice of keeping the candy or picking out a dozen pieces {to be doled out} and trading the rest in for a small toy. Do any of you put any limits on the candy for your kids?

And yes, success. Only one piece on Saturday and one piece on Sunday and the plan is no more - I will miss it.

Can you guess what C is going to be for Halloween? The boys had great fun at a Halloween party this past weekend, it was good for me - it meant I wasn't finishing their costumes on Halloween morning.

C has a throat thing going on - he feels fine though. Is it wrong to be amused by it? I asked him how much he was looking forward to Halloween...

M's movie review

A few weeks back, we took M to see the new H. Potter movie. Our rule with that series has been that after he reads the book he can see the movie. Sitting next to me during the film, he certainly seemed to enjoy it. This, however, was his movie review for his aunt:

I had no idea that the movie was burdening his heart and soul. Perhaps M dabbles in hyperbole?

 

a zoo out there

We had a nice time yesterday at the zoo*. The polar bear was very entertaining.  He fetched his drum from the water and rolled it up next to the rock, he would bounce a bit on it with his front paws and then wait for the dent to pop back to normal.

We always end our visit with a ride on the train, I remember loving it as a kid. In summer it takes the long route out of the zoo and into the forest above the city.

* my kids didn't start bickering until we hit the grocery store afterward - a small victory!
